648 CGT was the last AC Ace built and was delivered to its first customer in late 1963. The
first owner, a Miss Ridell, had a Cobra ordered for her by her father which was then
cancelled for being too fast. ACs , not wishing to lose a sale, persuaded the customer to
take a car fitted with the Zephyr engine instead. Apparently the car was also fitted with
some Cobra parts also and a stage 5 Ruddspeed engine on Webers and a Ford gearbox. It was
later, in the 60s, owned by Richard Cleare and then by Peter West who reported the car

stolen c. 1971. The car was not recovered and was found many years later by Nigel Winchester
in a Norfolk barn having been advertised as a Cobra. Nigel bought and rebuilt the car and
raced it in historic races in the late 1990s and early 2000 to 2002. He then sold the car
to Jonathan Bradburn in 2003 and the car was fully prepared for historic racing by Roger
Dowson.
It has a stage 5 Ruddspeed engine on triple 45 Webers which has been prepared by Competition Engine Services
and produces over 200 bhp. It also has foam aluminium fuel tank and supplementary
tank for long distance race. Brakes fitted are BR callipers and discs front and drums rear. Gearbox
is CR Ford. It also has rollover bar, plumbed fire extinguisher system system, limited slip
diff. with mag. case, wire wheels, new uprated stub axles, front uprights, diff output
shafts etc. It is also fitted with lightweight fibreglass seat and fibreglass hardtop and
Lexan screen (currently removed).
The car comes with spare wheels and possibly 2 spare engines of the same spec as the one fitted, spare
diff, and current FIA HTP papers papers and is road legal with current V5 etc.
The car has various other spares included and
also seats and carpets etc for full trimming for the road and weather equipment.
In 2005 and 2006 Tony Hill drove the car to a race win in the AC race at the BDC Silverstone and a
Historic road sports class win at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting in 2005 and 2006. He had a front row of
the grid at Silverstone in 2004 in the same class. He also had a class win in the 2006 Ken Rudd Trophy race and has won outright the first 2 AMOC team races.
The car has had some little use since being completed and is ready to use in either historic racing or gentleman drivers etc.
